Florence Wedding Venues: Villa Cora and Le Fontanelle

Florence wedding portraits can focus on the villa where you celebrate or on a separately planned city walk. Villa Cora and Villa Le Fontanelle both offer a setting with its own character, so an additional trip to a monument is a choice, not a requirement. Compare the rooms, gardens and viewpoints you can actually use before deciding how much of the day to spend away from guests.

Two settings to consider in the Florence area

Villa Cora

Viale Machiavelli · Florence

A historic villa hotel with ornate halls and a garden.

Portrait starting point: Historic halls; Villa garden.

Villa Le Fontanelle

Careggi hills · Florence

A historic villa with terraced gardens and a panorama of Florence.

Portrait starting point: Terraced garden; City panorama.

Compare intimate settings as well as the grand view

At Villa Cora, think about the relationship between the garden, the building and the rooms included in your event. An exterior photograph can establish the villa, while a quieter interior setting can bring attention back to the two of you. Confirm access around preparations and reception setup rather than assuming every room is free.

At Villa Le Fontanelle, in the Careggi hills, discuss the view you want and the place from which it will be photographed. A terrace or garden background can be part of the same short session as a closer architectural portrait. Choose a sequence that returns naturally to the celebration instead of ending at the farthest viewpoint.

Choose between a villa session and a Florence walk

Oltrarno streets, a riverside setting and a hilltop panorama are different choices with different arrival points. If the wedding takes place at a villa, add the full journey and the walk to the chosen spot before committing to city portraits. The image you want should justify the time away, particularly if guests are already at the reception.

Comfort matters when the plan includes steps, cobbles or a slope. Bring shoes for the transitions and agree where a car can meet you with the coordinator. A short session near the venue may leave more room for photographs with family, drinks and the changing atmosphere of the evening.

Give faces and the background equal attention

A city view can look impressive while the light on faces is less forgiving. Ask for a portrait position that works for both, and keep a garden or indoor alternative if conditions change. The Florence sunset estimate is useful for the broad schedule; it does not identify the best side of a villa or guarantee the light on a particular terrace.

Villa Cora

Choose one interior with character and one garden setting, leaving time to adjust between indoor and outdoor light.

Agree access to the halls with the hotel; guest areas and event rooms may have different arrangements.

Make the Florence view one part of the session, with closer portraits in the garden to vary the scale.

Allow for changes of level and choose an indoor alternative with the venue if the terrace is unsuitable.

Questions to settle with your venue

  • Which garden, terrace and interior rooms are included in the event?
  • Is the desired city view available during our portrait window?
  • If we leave the villa, where do the outbound and return journeys fit?

From the setting to the schedule

Try your date in the photo planner

Choose your wedding date, the local time the ceremony ends, a break and a 60, 90 or 120-minute portrait walk. The calculation uses Florence as its solar reference; it does not model the exact venue, travel time, weather or shadows.

Florence wedding venue questions

Do we need to leave a Florence villa for recognisable wedding portraits?

No. The villa, garden and available views can tell the story of where you celebrated. A separate city portrait is worthwhile if it matters to you and the return journey fits the day.

Can we combine the Arno and a hilltop viewpoint in a short session?

Do not assume both fit. Choose a primary setting and agree the actual route, arrival point and transfer allowance. Keep the second location optional until the schedule has been checked.

What should we ask Villa Cora or Villa Le Fontanelle about photography?

Ask which rooms and outdoor spaces you may use, when they are available around event setup, and where portraits can happen if the main outdoor spot is unsuitable. Confirm these details for your own booking.
