Lake Como Wedding Venues: Balbianello and Palazzo Gallio
Lake Como is a region of separate towns and venues, not one walkable wedding location. Villa del Balbianello is in Lenno, Tremezzina; Palazzo Gallio is in Gravedona on the northern lake. Start with the property and its access arrangements, then organise transport around that choice. The lake can connect the photographs visually without requiring several stops on the wedding day.
Two settings to consider in the Lake Como area
An editorial comparison for planning, not a ranking or a live availability list. Venue photographs illustrate the places; they are not presented as weddings photographed by Anton. Confirm the spaces and arrangements for your own booking.

A garden promontory or a lakeside palace
Villa del Balbianello combines terraced gardens, a loggia and lake-facing views. Decide which one or two backgrounds matter most before the session, then confirm the photography arrangements with FAI. A view of the villa online is not evidence that a particular garden or loggia is available at your preferred time.
Palazzo Gallio offers palace architecture and a lakeside setting in Gravedona. Build the session around the spaces available for your event: a view towards the water, the exterior and an agreed indoor setting. It makes more sense to organise the day around this part of the lake than to treat Gravedona as a quick detour from Como town.
Confirm the photography booking before choosing transport
FAI states that photographic sessions at Villa del Balbianello require a booking and a fee. Ask about the arrangements that apply to your event or separate session before fixing the rest of the timeline. The admission and event arrangements should be clear to everyone, including the photographer and coordinator.
If you want to arrive or take portraits by boat, confirm the provider, boarding point, access at the destination and a workable alternative. Boarding, disembarking and getting ready again all belong outside the time spent taking portraits. This guide does not assume a boat booking or a guaranteed landing.
Use the sunset estimate as a regional reference
The planner uses Como town for solar calculations. Neither Lenno nor Gravedona is the same reference point, and the surrounding hills can hide direct light before the calculated sunset. Ask your photographer and venue to assess the actual garden or terrace. Keep a portrait option that works with softer, shaded light rather than relying on the sun reaching one exact spot.
Villa del Balbianello
Agree the key viewpoint in advance so the available photography slot is spent on portraits.
Arrange event or photo-session access with FAI. Travel from Como and any boat journey are separate from this outline.

Palazzo Gallio
Use the lake for an open frame and the palace architecture for a more intimate sequence.
Gravedona is a separate lake destination from Como town. Base the session here and arrange the journey independently.
Villa Balbiano
Use the garden’s symmetry for one composed portrait, then turn towards the lake for a more open frame.
This is Villa Balbiano in Ossuccio, not the similarly named property near Turin. Confirm private-event access and arrival logistics.
Villa Erba
Use the villa and waterfront as one wide establishing frame, then choose a single interior for closer portraits.
Confirm whether the villa, park and any modern pavilion areas are included in your booking; they operate as distinct spaces.
Questions to settle with your venue
- What photography access is confirmed for our exact date and time?
- Which town, entrance or landing is the real arrival point?
- Where can we take portraits if the chosen terrace is already shaded?
From the setting to the schedule
Try your date in the photo planner
Choose your wedding date, the local time the ceremony ends, a break and a 60, 90 or 120-minute portrait walk. The calculation uses Como · Lake Como as its solar reference; it does not model the exact venue, travel time, weather or shadows.

Lake Como wedding venue questions
Can we take wedding photographs at Villa del Balbianello with ordinary visitor access?
Do not assume that visitor admission covers a wedding photography session. FAI’s event information says photographic sessions require booking and a fee. Confirm the current arrangement directly with FAI before setting the schedule.
Is Palazzo Gallio close enough to count as a Como town photo stop?
Palazzo Gallio is in Gravedona on northern Lake Como, separate from Como town. Treat it as a destination in its own right and plan the journey independently of the portrait allowance.
Does the Lake Como planner calculate sunset at the exact villa?
No. It uses Como town and the local time zone. Venue position, the hills and the direction of the selected terrace can change when direct light reaches you. Confirm the local conditions when choosing the portrait window.
