How Many Wedding Photos Will You Receive — and When?
Usually 48–80 finished photographs per hour of coverage. The number depends on events, guest interactions and transfers; it is an estimate, not a guaranteed minimum. The complete edited gallery is delivered within 6 weeks of the wedding, the contractual maximum. If requested before the wedding, a preview is ready within 3 days after the wedding. There is no automatic preview.
How many wedding photographs to expect
For my wedding coverage, a useful planning range is 48–80 fully edited photographs per hour. An eight-hour wedding will therefore often produce approximately 384–640 finished images, while ten hours may produce around 480–800.
These figures are not a quota that forces every hour to look the same. A ceremony, drinks reception and active dinner can create many meaningful frames in a short period. A long transfer or a quiet break naturally produces fewer. I deliver the photographs that help the gallery describe the wedding clearly rather than filling it to reach an artificial number.
| Photography coverage | Typical planning range |
|---|---|
| 4 hours | Approximately 192–320 photographs |
| 6 hours | Approximately 288–480 photographs |
| 8 hours | Approximately 384–640 photographs |
| 10 hours | Approximately 480–800 photographs |
| 12 hours | Approximately 576–960 photographs |
The range is most useful after the wedding photography timeline is visible. Coverage should be chosen around the parts of the story you want to keep, not by working backwards from a target file count.
Why the final number varies
The amount of photography depends on the density of the day. A wedding with preparations, a ceremony, many guests, speeches and an active party creates a different gallery from a wedding of the same duration with two long transfers.
The main variables are:
- how many distinct events happen during the coverage;
- the number of guests and the amount of interaction between them;
- whether different parts of the wedding happen simultaneously;
- travel, waiting and venue access time;
- the time given to family photographs and couple portraits;
- the pace of dinner, speeches and the evening programme.
More photographs do not automatically mean a more complete gallery. Ten nearly identical frames do less work than one clear establishing image, a reaction, a close detail and a transition that together explain what happened.
What is kept and what is removed
I keep useful variations of portraits. People often prefer different expressions, posture or angles, and the photographer’s first choice is not always the couple’s personal favourite. Those alternatives belong in the gallery when each one offers a genuine choice.
I remove technical failures, accidental frames, closed eyes and repetitions that add nothing. This selection is not about making the gallery unnecessarily small. It is about keeping it comfortable to view while preserving the people, atmosphere and sequence of the day.
Every delivered photograph receives:
- colour correction;
- nuanced tonal and exposure adjustments;
- considered cropping where it improves the frame;
- natural retouching of temporary blemishes when needed.
Skin remains skin. I do not replace its texture with a porcelain surface or change the way a person naturally looks. A complete gallery should feel coherent without looking mechanically identical from daylight preparations to a dark dance floor.
When your wedding gallery will arrive
The complete edited gallery is delivered within 6 weeks of the wedding date. This is the maximum deadline written into my contract, so the couple has a clear latest delivery point rather than an approximate season-dependent promise.
If you need photographs for an announcement, a thank-you message or simply want to see the first frames sooner, request a preview before the wedding. That early selection is ready within 3 days after the wedding. I do not send one automatically when it has not been requested; some couples prefer to receive the finished story together.
| Stage | Timing |
|---|---|
| Wedding day | Photography coverage takes place |
| Preview, requested before the wedding | Within 3 days after the wedding |
| Complete edited gallery | No later than 6 weeks after the wedding |
| Online gallery availability | 1 year from delivery |
| RAW file retention | Up to 1 month from the wedding date |
A written maximum matters because editing a complete wedding is different from preparing a small social-media selection. The final gallery must remain consistent through changing locations, mixed light, portraits, family groups and the evening reception. The deadline gives that work enough room while keeping the handover predictable.
How the online gallery works
The finished photographs are delivered in an online gallery. It presents the wedding in sequence and creates convenient links for sharing images on social media. The gallery remains available for 1 year, giving the couple time to download, share and choose photographs for print. Download a complete copy and keep your own backup before the storage period ends.
Privacy can be adjusted to the wedding. The gallery can be protected with a password. Downloading can also be disabled, for example when the couple wants guests to view the photographs without saving the complete set. These preferences can be agreed before delivery and changed when necessary.
Personal publication is permitted. Couples can share their wedding photographs on their own social channels without asking for separate approval each time.
RAW files, film and image rights
RAW files are not placed in the standard gallery, because they are working files rather than the finished version of the photography. All RAW files can be supplied free of charge on request and are stored for up to 1 month from the wedding date. Please arrange the handover before this period ends. Their storage period is shorter than the finished gallery deadline, so request them before the wedding or promptly afterwards rather than waiting for the edited photographs.
Film is available as an optional addition to digital coverage. Film coverage costs US$100 for 72 exposed frames, including development and scanning. The number of usable scans can differ from the number of exposed frames. Film adds a different colour response, grain and working rhythm; it is not used to replace the dependable coverage of the full digital gallery. The film versus digital guide shows how the two formats work together.
The couple may publish the finished photographs for personal use. Commercial licensing, supplier advertising and third-party publication are separate questions and should be discussed before the files are used in that context.
What to confirm before booking
Ask any photographer to put the essential delivery terms in writing. The useful points are:
- The expected range of finished photographs and whether it is a guarantee or an estimate.
- The contractual maximum delivery time.
- Whether an early preview is automatic or available by request.
- The level of colour correction and retouching included.
- The gallery format, privacy controls and download options.
- How long the gallery remains online.
- The policy for RAW files, film scans and personal publication.
For my work, the concise answer is: approximately 48–80 edited photographs per hour and the complete gallery within a contractual maximum of 6 weeks. A preview is ready within 3 days after the wedding if requested beforehand. The online gallery remains available for 1 year. The exact number changes with the wedding, but the deadline and delivery process do not remain vague.
